Bride – Derasha at wedding?

The old minhag was that the chasan at the chasuna would say a Dvar Torah.
If the chasan is very shy would there be an issue if the kallah spoke instead?
If yes can I get a mareh makom please? I need to stop it from actually happening.
thank you

Answer:

The fundamental of reaching halachic rulings is predicated upon intellectual honesty and the pursuit of the truth of Hashem’s will.
Whenever one has a personal agenda and seeks halachic sources to uphold or establish certain behaviors dear to them, they have strayed from the protocol of psak halochoh and have begun to use it as a tool to wield power.
The issue you presented may be forbidden or permitted. If it is permissible, why would you need to stop it from happening? If you have a personal reason to stop it from happening, then applying to a rav for a ruling to use in your favor, is inappropriate.
Perhaps there was a misunderstanding of your intent.
Please clarify.
Furthermore, please cite a source for the custom you present as fact. In which era and locale was it the custom for chassanim to speak at their own wedding?

  1. the question is personal one. the chasan (the shy one) has no interest in speaking but the kallah has given public speeches before.
i am sorry, i am not trying to use the beth din, i would like to show the couple that as tznius it would be improper for the kallah to speak to the guests.
to do so i would need a marah makom, as my hergish is not the din. if the beth din thinks it is appropriate, then i will go along with it.
