I am lending a Sefer Torah to a Shul. Do you have a form for this?
Answer
The text should read something like the following:
Agreement
Mr ………………………….. hereby lends to the shul …………………………….. in the city of ………………………………………….. the Sefer Torah that he owns. The Rav aמd Gabbo’im of the shul are responsible for the Sefer Torah, as borrowers. The Shul is obliged to insure the Sefer Torah to the value of $……………………… The owner can request that the Sefer Torah be returned to him after giving two months notice.
Signed,
……………………………………………………….. (Rav)
……………………………………………………..(Gabbai)
……………………………………………………..(Gabbai)
………………………………………………………(Owner)
If required, you may add a clause to the effect that the Gabboim pledge to read from the Sefer Torah at whatever regularity is agreed upon, and that they will ensure the Sefer Torah is kept
in a fireproof safe etc.
Two copies should be prepared and signed, one for the Shul and one for the owner.
