Asara Be-Teves on Friday

Do we fast on Asara be-Tevet even though it falls on a Friday this year?

Answer:

Yes. Asara Be-Teves is a unique fast, in that we fast even when it falls on Friday — and we would even fast on Shabbos, only that the fast day never falls on Shabbos (Beis Yosef, Orach Chaim 550, citing from Avudraham). The reason for this special stringency is that the verse (Yechezkel 40:1) uses the words be’etzem hayom hazeh, on this very day, implying that we are to fast whatever the day.
