Why the Mizbeyach Sheds Tears for a Divorce

Why does it say that the mizbeyach sheds tears when a person divorces his first wife, if the couple themselves may be very happy (and so are others)?

Answer:

Although the couple might be happy to divorce each other, the actual fact of the divorce is seen by Chazal as a tragedy. A person reaches spiritual completion through marriage, and the divorce of one’s first wife, with whom one attains a level of completion, is a human tragedy even when it is necessary, and even when the parties involved will be grateful for it. The fact that the mizbeyach sheds tears demonstrates the Divine involvement in the matter: Hashem desires the service of a complete person, a person who lives in the husband-wife union, and the altar, the focus of our service to Hashem, sheds tears when this completion is broken.
