Kiddush with a Seudah

I was recently at a kiddush on shabbos chol hamoead pesach. There wasn’t any mazonot. Is it sufficient to hear kiddush and be yotzi? Is there something one should do to be yotzi kiddush in order to eat or is listening to kiddush and eating “shehakol” type foods sufficient?

Answer:

Shehakol is not sufficient for being yotzei kiddush, and one can only be yotzei kiddush together with a ‘substantial’ meal. Shulchan Aruch writes that fruit are not sufficient for this, and something whose beracha is shehakol would fall under the same category. However, in the absence of mezonos or bread/matzah, one may drink a revi’is of wine. Although one should preferably not rely on this, one may do so under extenuating circumstances.
