Buying with Intention of Returning

Is it wrong (halachically or hashkafically) to purchase a product from a company that has a “no questions asked” return policy, if I have the express intent to return it?

Answer:

Even if the store offers a “no questions asked” return policy, it is forbidden to purchase an item with the express intention of returning it (this is known as ‘return fraud’).

The intention of the “returns policy” is that people should feel free to buy the item, in the comfort of knowing that they will be able to return it (hassle free) if things don’t work out. The intention is quite obviously not to give a free rental service, and if a person has the intention of “borrowing” the item, it is not permitted.

In addition, unfortunate experience has shown that buying with intention of returning can cause a grave case of Chilul Hashem.
