Can someone buy towels on chol hamoed? Its needed for drying ones hands and or shower? Do not have enough over yom tov? Is causing a tremendous tircha?

Yes, there is no problem in buying such everyday purchases as towels during Chol Ha-Moed. The restriction on business applies to business dealings, and not to basic purchases (see Shulchan Aruch 539:12 and Mishnah Berurah; Kitzur Shulchan Aruch 106:5).
