Naming Baby in Shul

Hi,

My wife & i just had a healthy baby girl :)

I want to go to temple (sephardic-orhtodox) and name her after I have an aliya before we tell the family of her name.

Does my daughter need to be present at temple? i would rather do this right away than wait a few months till my wife and newborn can leave the house comfortably.

Thank you.

Answer:

There is no need for your daughter to be present.

The regular custom is that the father attends the Synagogue in the days (or on the Sabbath) following the birth, and as you say, names his daugter after receiving an aliya.

Make sure you inform the gabbai in advance, so that he knows he has to give you an aliya.

MAZAL TOV, and may you see much nachas from the new addition to the family!
