Can a Jew be yotzei bedieved with pan akum on Shabat Friday night?
Answer:
It is permitted, when one does not have other bread, to eat pas akum, provided that one knows that no non-kosher ingredients have been added.
Although poskim, and in particular those who follow the customs of the Rema, are generally lenient concerning pas paltar (bread from a non-Jewish bakery; see Yoreh De’ah 112:2, and also se’if 8; see also Shach 8), this applies only to bread that is certified as containing only kosher ingredients.
Most simple regular breads are kosher, but this should be verified in advance.
