Inviting Non-Jew for Yom Tov

Someone Frum has an Uncle who married a goya (R”L) that they have a son who is a teenager (a goy obviously) and wants to learn more about yiddishkeit. He very much wants to come for a yom tov seudah. However it’s ossur to invite a goy for yom tov. Is there any way or heter that he should be allowed to come?

Answer:

I don’t know of a way in which this can be permitted in a standard setting.

However, it is permitted when Yom Tov falls on Shabbos. It is likewise permitted when a person brings all the food ready before Yom Tov, say to a hall, and there is no cooking that is done on Yom Tov itself.

If he “shows up for the yom tov meal” without preparation, it would be permitted to give him to eat, but of course this can’t be prepared in advance.

  1. I also see it quite difficult to be makil. Some wanted to say a “savarah” that since all the food is already prepared the issur falls off. But it says b’faresh not like that in many poskim (SA HaRav sif Beis, Tur, Aruch HaShulchan and others…) Tzrich iyun…

  2. See Shulchan Shlomo on Hilchos Yom Tov from R’ Shlomo Zalman Aurbach Siman 512 in the footnotes 5-8.
