Money for Transportation

There is a job where if someone lives more than 3 bus stops away from the job they are eligible to receive money for transportation (costs of the bus). May one take the money even if they don’t take the bus (the kavanah of the person being that they’d rather walk then take the bus since they are eligible for the money and thus be able to keep it instead of spending it on buses)?

Answer:

Although it is possible that the answer will vary for different places and customs, the general conception of money for transportation is that a person has the right to take the money, even if he does not actually take the transportation that the money can pay for.

Therefore, an employer will often pay for the bus fare, and even somebody who drives, and doesn’t take buses, can take the money.

The same applies to somebody who decides to walk.
