Meaning of Bedieved

When something is permitted bidieved (such as in laws of bishul on shabbos) does that mean only that if one did it by mistake then its okay, or does it mean that lechatchilah one shouldn’t do it, but besha’as hadchack you can cook something that’s only permitted bidieved?

Answer:

The first option is usually — and certainly for cooking on Shabbos — the right explanation.

The food being permitted bedieved means that if a person violated the Shabbos, the food (under certain conditions, such as if the violation was accidental) is permitted for consumption.

It is certainly not permitted to wilfully perform the violation, even under extenuating circumstances.
