Status of the Word G-d

Dear Rabbonim shlita
What is the halachic status of the word G-d?
Is it the same as the names of Hashem that we say in tefillah? Can one say thank G-d? Must one be careful not to say it in front of pritzus or dirty surroundings?

Answer:

The prohibition of erasing the Name of Hashem does not apply to other languages, according to the majority of halachic authorities.

Nonetheless, many write the word as G-d, meaning to ensure that it should be treated with disrespect (for instance, to ensure that the paper on which it is written is not taken into the bathroom).

Saying “Thank G-d” is definitely fine: In this sense it would be permitted to use even the name of Hashem (though we don’t do it), and using the English is 100% okay.

There is no obligation to be careful in saying the word in front of peritzus (as in “thank G-d”), but one should preferably avoid it.
