When preparing to light candles on Yom Tov (for Shabbos or 2nd day yom tov) may the left over wicks be removed from the glass? Possible to take out with ones hand or are they muktzeh? Better to remove by ‘pouring’ out from the glass? How about to remove the wicks with a knife (if they are considered muktzeh).

The used wicks are muktzeh (unless they can be re-used) and cannot be removed by hand.
It is fine to remove them by means of a knife or similar utensil.
