Does a Baal Teshuva that has a Tattoo on their body have to remove it when they become frum?
Answer:
There is no obligation to remove the tattoo.
The prohibition is on having one done, and once the deed is done, there is no obligation to remove it. I have heard this ruling said over from Rav Shlomo Zalman zt”l.
Some prefer having it removed for social reasons (this can be done with laser treatment), but there is no obligation to do so.
