Using “Bris” as Heading

A tzedeka organization wants to include in a paper that will be filled out and signed when making a donation a lashon of “Bris Kodesh”. Is such a lashon though a problem of making a “shavuah” the lashon of “bris”? And perhaps then should be omitted from the paper?

Answer:

Although we find in Pesachim (38) that the word “bris” can mean an oath, this is not the standard form for an oath (see, for instance, Sifsei Chachamim Bereishis 8:21), and it can certainly mean a “contract” or an “engagement” rather than an oath. There is therefore no problem with using the heading.

Best wishes.
