Getting Married at Sunset

hello,

I am getting married in Israel on a wednesday at sunset. I was told there is an issue with that because its overlaps 2 days. The whole reason we reserved the place we did is to get married at sunset. The question is how to make it kosher. we had a number of different responses from different sources but i wanted your opinion.

thanks!

I really appreciate your help.

Answer:

There is no problem at all in getting married while the sun is setting.

The potential problem only begins if you get married after the sun has already set, before some time has elapsed.

Therefore, I recommend getting married while the sun is setting (meaning, before the red ball of the sun has vanished beneath the horizon). This means that you have to give the ring to your wife-to-be before the sun has completely set.

The rest of the ceremony, including the blessings etc., can be continued after the sun has set.

The date of Wednesday should be written on the Ketubah.

Best wishes.

Sources:

Some write that there is a problem of having the date of the Ketubah written for the day, and getting married in the night. Because “after sunset” is possibly the night, it is preferable not to get married after sunset. However, if the kiddushin (the giving of the ring) is done while the sun is setting (before it has completely set), there is certainly not problem.
