I am traveling and have been away for some time I have a still a large bottle of Olive oil that would otherwise not be used when I return back to my family in Israel can I use this oil for the Mitzvah of lighting the Chanukiah? My intention when I bought the oil was not even thinking of the Chanukah lights and mitzvah.

Answer:

There is no problem in using the oil for Channukah.

There is no obligation of using purpose-bought oil for Channukah, and any oil is fine. The oil only receives a degree of kedushah after it has been used for the Channukah light.

Best wishes.
