Bonus on Credit Card

I lent someone money on my credit card. My credit card pays 1.5% interest on money spent on the card. Is this cashback bonus ribbis? If so, should I give it to the borrower or to tzedakah?

Answer:

There is no problem in accepting the cash-back bonus.

The payment is not being made by the borrower, but by a third party without any connection to the borrower (who wouldn’t have to pay anything if the company would fail to pay the bonus).

Furthermore, the company isn’t giving the money for the loan, but rather for the purchase, irrespective of who is making it.

Therefore, you can keep the payment and do not need to take further action.

Best wishes.
