Fluorescent Fixture Burning Out

I will be grateful if you could answer this query. My wife bought an expensive fluorescent light for one of our rooms – the seller said that he guaranteed to replace it if it burnt out within a year no matter what. The problem is that for an inexplicable reason some of our light fixtures burn out their lights within a short time. I feel that it is wrong to take advantage of a guarantee knowing ahead of time that the light would probably burn out well ahead of the specified time.
How would halacha rule in this case?

Answer:

I don’t see why your light fixtures should burn out before anybody else’s. However, if you know that there is an electrical flaw in your house, or something of the sort, which causes the fixtures to burn out, it will not be permitted to claim the guarantee. This will be similar to claiming the guarantee after using the wrong voltage, or something of the sort, which is clearly not the intention of the seller.

Best wishes.
