Haseiva for Korban Pesach

Question:

Was the Karbon Pesach eaten b’hasabah? What’s the makor for this (either way.)

Answer:

No.

The concept of leaning was introduced by the Sages (in the times of the Tana’im it became the way of gentry to lean on couches for festive meals), long after the Destruction of the Temple, and therefore the original Pesach offering was surely eaten without leaning.

Therefore we find that the Gemara discusses specifically Haseiva during drinking wine and eating matzah.

Best wishes.

  1. It seems to be according to many maforshim that in fact the Karbon Pesach was eaten b’hasabeh

See the Maharal in Gavuros HaShem here: http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=41399&st=&pgnum=176

See Bach in Siman 475 d’h “csav achi” (ois 7 in Machon Yerushalayim print)

    See Shibolei HaLeket (Rishon!)
    http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=14636&st=&pgnum=243

The most interesting mareh makom is the Medresh in Shir HaShirim Rabba (1:3)
    http://www.hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=42625&st=&pgnum=21&hilite
    (on the right column)

    “Moshe V’Yisrael masubin v’ochlin pischeihem b’mitzriam”

What’s interesting though is a few lines about it says “R Yudan Amor Chazkiyahu v’siatan ochlin pischeihen b’Yerushalayim” … nothing about hasabeh. However not sure if such diyukim can be made in the medresh.

See Pri Megadim Siman 477 A”A Sif-Katan 1 that says he didn’t find anywhere in the Rambam that says to make hasbabeh. INeed a diyuk is made from the Rambam in Perek 7 Halacha 8 (as you pointed out.) However we see from many maforshim here that hasabeh was made and the interesting medresh in Shir HaShirim Rabbah.

(all these I found after asking the question. Thanks for your insights none the less!)
