Can someone frum become a veterinarian? Is declawing cats, cropping of ears for dogs mutar? Spaying operations are routine procedures for domestic pets. So is putting animals to sleep. What are the halachic guidelines for a vet? Should someone just avoid this profession?

Answer:

This is a good question.

The main problem is spaying an animal, which we have discussed in a number of previous posts (see here).

If an arrangement can be made with a non-Jew for spaying in an indirect manner, for which we have noted there is room for leniency, then the other elements of the profession don’t appear to be problematic.

See here for putting animals to sleep.

Best wishes.
