Kashering Ceramic Stovetop

Question:

How do I kasher my ceramic stovetop on my electric stove?

Answer:

According to the strict halachah, the top can be kashered by means of turning on the burners at full heat, and pouring boiling (bubbling) water over the rest of the counter.

However, as a Pesach stringency, the custom is to require libbun (kashering by means of fire), which can’t be done for the areas of the stove beyond the burners themselves. Please see here for details.

Therefore, it is good idea to have a trivet (short metal stand) on the open (non-burner) areas of the stove-top, onto which the pots can be moved when not on the burner itself.

Best wishes.
