This is my dilemma:
Your pet is suffering with pain. Do you do everything you can to keep it alive or ask the vet to put it to sleep.

It is permitted and recommended to put a suffering animal to sleep.
We are charged with refraining from causing pain to animals, but there is no obligation to prevent their killing (see also Noda Biyhuda who writes that the concept of causing pain to animals doesn’t apply to killing them).
Therefore, it seems that putting an animal to sleep is the best option for a suffering animal that has no cure for its ailment.
