Meaty Pot with Dairy Water

Question 1) If one was frying breaded chicken in oil and it splashed on a dairy pot ,what is the status of the dairy pot.

Question 2) If one was cleaning a dirty meat pot with a dirty dairy sponge(one can see dairy residue)with soap, what is the status of both?

Question 3) If one cleaned a dairy pot and it was filled with cold water to soak, then he placed a dirty meat spoon(confused it for a dairy one) in the pot to soak for more than 24 hours, what is the status of the utensils?

Thank you

Answer:

1) The chicken oil is meaty, and if it splashes onto a dairy pot the pot will need hag’alah. This is done by immersing the pot into a larger pot or tub filled with boiling (bubbling) water.

2) If the water was cold the post factum there’s no problem. Even if the water was hot, the dairy residue will become soiled and inedible (pagum) as a result of the soap used on the sponge, and therefore won’t transfer the taste to the meaty pot, so that nothing needs to be done. Of course one should take care not to get into this situation.

3) One can be lenient (soaking for 24 hrs can transfer the taste of the meat to the water, but it would also take 24 hrs to transfer the taste of the water to the pot, so that after 24 hrs alone one can still be lenient; see also Shach 105:2 who notes that some dispute the basic halachah of soaking for 24 hrs).
