Fasting after C-Section

A woman in the community might have the C-section on Monday or Wednesday before the Shabbos of Yom Kippur. In those situations, what would be her requirement to fast?

Answer:

A woman who gives birth via C-section is not considered a Yoledes for purposes of fasting, but rather as somebody who has undergone surgery (a choleh). The ruling for such matters depends on the decision of doctors (and subsequent consultation with an experienced rabbi); and usually a woman within approx. 7 days of C-section surgery will not fast.

Best wishes.
