Going Back to Sefard

Hi, and thanks fir taking the time to answer my question. My family davens nusach sefard, and so did i untill i was 19 or so when i went to an out of town beis medrash and that was the only minyan around. So i changed to nusach ashkenaz. At the timie i didnt even tell my father. It was only a long time later that i told him. Although I dont think he was that happy he was very polite and gracious about it and said he understood. Now that i am almost 30 and have a few kids f my own i would really like to change back. For one I feel bad at having left what my father and grandfather did. Plus i think it will be a bad sign of chinuch if my child (not yet old enough to realize) will realize that his father davens a different nusach then his grandfather. Am I allowed to change back?

Answer:

Yes, under the circumstances you can change back.

Although Rav Moshe Feinstein recommends changing back to Nusach Ashkenaz, this is not an obligation, but a preference.

In your case, your family custom is Sefard, and your concerns for chinuch as well as your personal preference are legitimate. It is therefore fine to return to Sefard, in your case.

Best wishes.
