Performing Labor after Lighting Candles

Can I do Melacha after I lit Shabbos candles if I had in mind not to accept Shabbos with the lighting?Am I allowed to learn, daven , and eat using the shabbos candles without a shamesh or other source of light? Can I do melacha in Jerushalayim after the siren before shabbos goes off ? Can I move something muktza machmas issur to take something (muter to use on shabbos) under it?

Answer:

Yes, it is permitted to perform melachah after lighting candles. For a man one does not need to have any explicit kavanah in this, because the assumption is that men do not accept Shabbos with candle lighting; for a woman, it is only permitted if she has explicit intention to perform melachah after lighting. It is likewise permitted to perform melalaccha after the siren, which is only an indication of the time for candle lighting, and not of a prohibition to perform melachos.

It is not permitted to read by the Shabbos candles, for fear of tilting them, but it is permitted to eat by the candles.

A Keli Shemelachto Issue can be moved to remove something from under it.

Best wishes.
