Fixing Wedding Date

Dear Rabbi,

BH we are engaged and we are in the process of fixing a wedding date. I would like to know which of the two following dates is the most auspicious one for a Jewish wedding: 11th June 2015 (24 Sivan) or 18th June 2015 (Rosh Chodesh Tammuz). I am more inclined to think that the latter, since it´s Rosh Chodesh and Yosef Ha Tzaddik´s birthday. Could you please advise?

Thanks so much in advance.

Blessings,

Mazal.

Answer:

Although all days are good for getting married, you are right that there is some preference for Rosh Chodesh – all other things being equal.

Best wishes.

See Rema, Even HaEzer 64:3, who writes that there is a preference for getting married in the first half of the Jewish month, while the moon is waxing.
