If you’re not allowed to light a fire on Shabbat, why did the priests add wood to the fire in the Bet Hamikdash to keep the fire going if that’s considered making a new fire?

Although it is not permitted to light a fire on Shabbat, this was done in the Mikdash in order to bring the Tamid offerings that were brought even on Shabbat.
Just as the most special element of the time dimension is Shabbat, so the most special element of the space dimension is the Mikdash, and for purposes of Korbanot the Shabbat restrictions do not apply.
