Kel Malei Rachamim

My father passed away the week after Yom Kippur, when am I allowed to make a Kel Harachamin for him.
Thank you.

Answer:

Hazkarat Neshamot in the form of the the Kel Malei Rachamim prayer is generally said the Shabbos before the Yortzeit and on the day of the Yortzeit if there is Krias Hatorah. However this prayer is not said between Yom Kipur and Sukkot, which are days of joy.

You will be able to say Hazkarat Neshamot in the form of the Yizkor prayer which is said on Yom Kippur and on Shmini ATzeres.

At any time you visit your father’s grave you may say a Kel Malei even without a minyan. That being on days this prayer is said From Erev Yom Kippur until Rosh CHodesh Cheshvan, this prayer is not said, along with the other days tachanun is not said.
