Intermarriage of Family Member

A Jewish woman had an intimate relationship with a moslem man. What is her status? I do not wish to associate with her. A jewish female relative is marrying a goy. We are not attending and will not congratulate them. It is likely to cause a permanent break. It is Hillul Hashem. What is the halacha in both cases? Thank you.

Answer:

You should be cordial and decent, but you certainly have the right to cut off ties with these people. To do so is not a chilul Hashem. However in our day and age most people do these things out of ignorance and being completely disconnected from Judaism. It remains a mitzva to be mekarev these people to their roots and religion as much as possible. If maintaining a relationship with them may have such an effect it would be worthwhile not to cut off ties with them.
