Metamucil

I need to take a powder called metamucil it’s a fiber supplement wich you mix in a drink of your choice I need to take it for constipation problems but it has no kosher certification is it permissible to take this since I’m using it for a refuah

Answer:

From what I understand this product has many active and inactive ingredients, including flavoring.  In general whenever a pleasant taste is there from flavoring, certification would be required. See here: http://www.crcweb.org/OTCMedicineReport.pdf  a few pages in for a list of which metamucil is acceptable and which are not recommended.

  1. I made a mistake, the Star K certification applies to powder only.
