Partially Fallen Sefer Tora

someone did Hagbah on a sefer torah and it fell down but not on the floor only on the bench of the bimah which is used for the Magbiah to sit on. The sefer torah did not leave his hands he held the Atzei Chaim the entire time -Does he and everyone in the shul have to fast? What should the onlookers do as a Kaporoh?

Answer:

The minhag to fast is for a Torah which fell to the floor. So in this case it would seem there is no obligation to fast. However, everyone should give tzedaka, and the one holding the Torah should give the amount equivalent to to the food he eats in a day in place of a fast.
