Robin Hood and Judaism

What is the jewish opinion on Robin Hood. Stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Thank you

Answer:

Stealing is a Torah prohibition and a person’s altruistic motives do not justify violating this sin. As with all Torah laws, unless an exception is explicitly indicated by the Torah, we are obligated to follow the laws regardless of our intent and understanding of their morality.

Someone who is wealthy, like everyone else, has an obligation to give charity, and perhaps in a time and place where a Bais Din could enforce the laws of the Torah, he could be forced to give charity. But to randomly steal from the rich for the sake of the poor, is stealing non the less.
