Question:
Someone wants to borrow a significant sum from me, is there a text for a valid shtar [einglish or hebrew]. Also, is it necesssary to have witnesses or does the signature of the borrower hold wieght in beis din?
Answer:
It is sufficient that the shtar says that the undersigned borrowed a sum of money from you (the sum should be written in words and numbers) to be repaid by a certain date. Then the borrower should sign his name. If it is a significant sum I would have some reliable guarantors also sign.
