Kiddush before maariv

Question:

For those who make kiddush before maariv, is it OK to do so up until 40 or so minutes after shkia, since nightfall is 72 minutes according to Shulchan Aruch? Would it help to appoint a shomer to remind them to daven Maariv? Can the shomer be a person who is also eating?

Answer:

A shomer would help providing he is not eating with you. If he davens with you then you can both eat together because you will remind each other.
