Question:

I went to a car auction with a dealer. The agreement is that I pay a fee if the dealer buys a car for me. The dealer and I see a car and he asks me if I like it, I say I do and ask him if he thinks it’s a good deal and he says yes. The car is bought he drives it back and calls me to tell me there is something wrong with the car. I bring it to the mechanic and it needs at least $1000 in work. Do I owe him the fee? I thought the fee was for his expertise.

Answer:

This question is difficult to answer in such a forum, as it depends on what was spoken out or written down when you made the agreement. Also it depends on the nature of the problem that was found. Is it something that the dealer should have noticed when he looked it over?
