I discovered that my father is Jew

Question:

Hello,
I am 16 years old and I just learned that my father is a Jew, my aunt told me that. Since childhood I am attracted to Israel, to the Jewish culture but I did not know that I am Jewish after my father. Could you please tell me what do I have to do know, if the fact that it is my father and not my mother who is a Jew still makes me Jewish? How can I get closer to my Jewish identity?
Thank you very much
Maria

Answer:

According to Jewish law the deciding factor if one is Jewish from birth is the person’s mother, not their father.

You may surely investigate the state of Israel and the Jewish culture.

You might also want to investigate if you mother is Jewish, you never know.

Best Wishes
