Dear Rabbi is it forbidden or a sin to write a government exam on shabbat? I am a law student and some of my exams fall on shabbat which causes me to travel and write exams on shabbat what should i do?
Answer:
We may not take an exam on shabbat because one of the acts we may not do is writing. In fact the reason we don’t do business on shabbat is because we might come to write. We are not allowed to write even if it is a government test. Having such a test on shabbat is a big problem. Maybe there is some way to explain this to the teachers, that it is not possible to take the test on the holy shabbat.
