Question:

Does the Rashba’s cherem still aplly to learning the sciences? Can I read my anatomy or other science books on the side (assuming no objectionable material) even for interest?

Answer:

It would appear that it doesn’t apply, as it isn’t brought in the Shulchan Aruch, in fact according to the Mishna Berurah, it is even permitted on shabbos, (although it is preferable not to learn them on shabbos). Understandably this does not include novels etc. that take a person’s mind away from torah learning.
