Question:

How must I do the before bed prayer? Most of the time I just read it from my prayer book (whilst sitting because of a leg problem I have) is that right? I just converted to Judaism so I’m fairly new and when I googled it, it just showed the prayer to say and some Ancient Jewish praying, I would love for you too give me a full answer of how I must stand please, or if I’m doing it right pm thank you so much for taking the time to read my letter.

Answer:

The before bed prayer, “kriyas shema al hamita” (lit. Shema recital before bed) may be said while standing or sitting, and it doesn’t have any specific position that we have to have when saying it. It is however preferred that it not be recited while lying down.  If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to ask us.

Best Wishes
