The brit should be specifically on shabbat. Unless the baby is not well it is very important that the brit be on the 8th day of baby’s life. In fact it is so important, that even though the actual making of the bris violates the shabbat, it must still be done on the shabbat.
Also if the baby was delivered via cesarean section the bris will not be on shabbat.
