Does G-d give people signals, before they find their 2nd half? (a general question) Like for instance, seeing the person or messenger himself beforehand? Or that’s not possible. When people find their second half, its a complete surprise (who the person is) and no-one gets the privilege to know/ feel who their second half is in advance (like a couple of years before or months) until they meet each other. Everyone is different (in how they find their soul mate) but are signals something to consider to one’s mind or not.Thanks!

In general G-d does not give specific outside signals to who a person’s soul mate is. It is possible that G-d does give signals to some people, but even if he does we would, we would never really know what indeed it is, and if it indeed it is a signal. It is not a good idea to try and look for such signals, as this can cause us lots of serious damage, for a number of reasons. First of all these thoughts will cloud our mind and prevent us from coming to correct rational decision, because our mind will get bogged down with the thought, ”maybe I got a sign from heaven that this is really my soul mate, and therefore maybe it is really the right one”. These thoughts can drive a person crazy, and cause us to err. R’ Yeruchem Levovitz zt”l the great mashgiach of the Mirrer Yeshiva in Europe once said, that H-shem gave everyone a guide- his intellect and his mind. We are to use our rational mind to see if we see this person as someone that we can marry. (This is aside from the emotional factor, that the two people have to be able to feel that they can connect to each other in an emotional way. This is, because marriage is not a business deal, but a binding of the two people’s souls.)
We are commanded by H-shem “Tamim tehiyeh im Hshem Elokecha”, that we should go with H-shem in a simple minded fashion. This does not mean that we should be simple minded people, not at all. Rather it means that we should live our lives as normal human beings, who get their ques from the world as it is revealed to us by G-d, and not to live our lives by trying to find out the future or to use supernatural ways o figure out what heaven has in store for us.
