Flushing toilet paper with writing on it

Question:

Is there an issue with discarding toilet paper with writing on it into the toilet on shabbos, wherein the writing will be destroyed when it is flushed away?

Answer:

It is definitely better to use toilet paper that doesn’t have writing on it. However if one doesn’t have a choice he may use this paper and flush it afterwards. The reason is because there a number of factors here to give a lenient ruling. The person is not interested in the writing getting erased, (psik reisha dlo nicha leih), it isn’t the normal way of erasing the letters, (klacher yad), it is an indirect action, (gramma), and only riuning the paper, (mekalkel), including kavod habrios.

Best Wishes
