Re-gifting and gneivas daas

Question:

If one received a gift basket and gave it to another — is it permissible to give this, without explicitly mentioning that the whole package was not purchased on behalf of the receiver?

On the one hand — it’s is now in the possession of the giver and they are giving it as a full-fledged gift. On the other hand — they did not go to the trouble of buying it and may not have given something as “nice” if they had not received one already. Maybe there is a distinction between the gift items and the adornments of the gift items.

Needless to say, if someone asked where it was purchased from, one would be expected to answer honestly..

Answer:

It is not a problem of genivas daas because you right now own the gift and you chose to give it to the other person. Even if you might not have given something so nice, but right now you did give it.

Best Wishes
