denier for womens tights

Question:

Lichvod harav
I try to uphold high standards of tznius in halavha and sensitivity. I come from litvishe circles in eretz yisroel. is there any guidline in halacha for how thick skin colored stockings should be?
thank you very much

Answer:

The thickness of a woman’s stockings depends on the thickness that is worn in that community. Therefore you should speak to the local rabbonim or rebbitzens to verify what the minhag is, and that is what you should do.

Best Wishes

  1. I was initially thrown off by the title which used the word “denier”, which in the common vernacular, refers to a person who denies something. I wondered, is this question about someone who denies the halacha about women needing to cover their legs?

It might be helpful to put the word in quotation marks. “Denier”, and explain that it’s a unit of measurement that is used to determine the fiber thickness of individual threads or filaments used in the creation of textiles and fabrics.
