Designated money for rabbi

Question:

Hi, two years ago I meant to give money to my rabbi and even set it aside, awhile after we lost touch I thing I didn’t end up giving it to him, recently I heard that this rabbi said of himself that he is not permitted to take maaser, do I have a obligation to get the money to him?

Answer:

If the money that you set aside was meant to be used specifically for this Rabbi, then it would depend if he was permitted to take money at the time that you set it aside to give it to him. If he was not permitted to take it then, then you can give it to any cause that you want, otherwise it should be given to him, because you set it aside for him then.
