Is it mutar to tear open a package on shabbos if there is a (good) chance you will tear the lettering?
If it is assur, why is not considered a "davar sh'eino miskavein" & its not a pesik reisha?

If it is not a certainty or near-certainty that lettering will be torn, there is no prohibition of mochek (erasing) in tearing the packaging. I have not addressed the possible prohibition of kore'a (tearing), which depends on other details.
