Honey Nut Cheerios

What berachah should one make on honey nut cheerios?

Answer:

As far as I recall, “honey nut cheerios” is a wheat-based cereal, and its berachah would therefore be borei minei mezonos, followed by al hamichyah.

  1. I believe Honey Nut Cheerios are made of oats not wheat. As such the proper after-bracha may be Borei Nefashot depending on if you view oats as a 5-grain or not.

    1. Thanks. Note that in spite of various research that indicates the contrary, the common custom, and the general ruling of poskim (in line with the opinion of generations past), is that oats are considered one of the five grains, and therefore the al-hamichyah berachah should be made.
